About

From Nottingham to London.

At home in Ireland as a Set Decorator..

I’m Justine Wright and earlier in my career I worked in TV Production design in the UK - Designing, Art Directing, & Prop Styling - Drama, Light Entertainment, Music, Arts & Culture and Childrens TV.

From the beginning In the Art Dept of ‘Live & Kicking’ each week we would design, create and dress sets and props for live bands, comedy sketches, Leprechauns and Mr Blobby! I went on to Assist and Art Direct with many other Production designers on iconic TV Shows such as - Top Of The Pops, Jools Holland, Waking The Dead……

This lead to my own design projects for the BBC and ITV.

Today I live in Ireland with my family and work in Film, TV & Advertising.

I got my start in Ireland as a Buyer which I loved…meeting suppliers - creating contacts, searching peoples attics, antique shops, car boot sales for prop and dressing treasures, learning the process.

Through an opportunity as Assistant Set Dec on ‘The Turning’ my passion became clear -

SET DECORATION.

This reconnected me with my earlier career as an Art Director where I had designed, sourced and dressed sets.

I love the work I do …The creative process in which a Script, Sketch or Cardboard Model evolves into a

3-Dimensional reality or when the Prop, Chair, Paper or Cloth you’ve toiled endlessly to find, is finally positioned on the set, ready for Action.

I source, design and dress the weird and the wonderful from Period to Modern Day - antiques, furniture, product placement, wallpaper, fabrics liaising with graphics, greens, construction and drapes.

In recent months…I have helped launch a new Non profit Prop Hire company ‘ Contemporary PROPS 360’.

Alongside four female colleagues in the SET DEC dept, we saw a growing need for a sustainable business that kept unwanted props and furniture in the circular economy. Based in Glenealy, we receive props, donated from productions, that would otherwise go to charity or landfill - Our rentals are for a nominal fee that all production buyers have access to via a curated online catalogue of Contemporary SET DEC.

The future is exciting - I’m looking forward to the next Set Dec challenge - building on a strong network of existing suppliers and work colleagues alongside developing and encouraging the industry to source, hire and dispose of their prop rooms sustainably where possible.
